My 100 Miles October Challenge

There was a time, many years ago, when I was hooked to the gym. I used to go six days a week and would spend several hours working out.This routine helped me back then to create an incredible exercise discipline. This discipline disappeared when I injured my knee and had to stop working out and thus, I lost all that habit. It was a total abandonment of any and all forms of exercise, with the current result of 25 pounds added to my weight.

About 4 months ago, I returned to the habit of exercising and living a healthy life. In the beginning it was quite difficult!! However, I’m on the way to my ideal weight now. I’ve been changing my diet for the past few months, which my coach tells me it’s the main aspect of losing weight, in addition to exercise.

These past couple of months, I’ve been attending my fitness classes periodically, one-on-one, with my coach. He’s very knowledgeable and has helped me a lot. Now in my exercise routine we are incorporating cardio. He actually came up with a brilliant idea to motivate me to get up and move. The challenge was for myself to run/walk 100 miles in the month of October. Challenge accepted!!

The first week of October, when I returned from Cuba, I had a lot of work pending and didn’t have much time at all for anything else. If I’m honest, I thought I wouldn’t be able to accomplish this goal. It was already the beginning of the second week of the month and I had 0 miles in. It was really hard to walk 5 miles a day in the mornings and on occasional times I had to walk twice a day to catch up. My pets Rom and Lua helped a lot. Lua is the smallest (maltese) and Rom is bigger and resists long walks, luckily.

It is now November…I look back and I can say: I did it! Completing this challenge for me has been something special and a personal achievement. A healthy life has become my priority, not only for the physical part, but also therapeutically. If you want to start exercising, just do it! Do not wait until next month or next year. Find a motivation, create your personal challenge and do it today! Have a fantastic day and remember that it always seems impossible until it is done.
